At least 10 people were hurt after a vehicle hit them in Mandaluyong City. This accident was caught on camera.

Social media was abuzz about it after its CCTV footage circulated on different online pages and communities on Tuesday, January 10.

Reports credited the footage to a private company called MGS Consulting Solutions.

The Philippine STAR also posted photos of the incident from the Heart Response Team and the Fire and Rescue Alert Responders.

The report said private vehicles, a taxi and a motorcycle were involved in the collision at the corner of Shaw Boulevard corner San Miguel Avenue in Mandaluyong City.

Twelve individuals were also injured along the way.

The video recording showed a white SUV hitting other vehicles in the opposite lane of San Miguel Avenue.

The crash caused some passersby to run to the side sidewalk nearby.

The SUV, however, did not stop. The video showed it reversing, and then hastily plowing its way through other vehicles on the same lane.

In another report, the police identified the van to be a Land Cruiser that was plying along Sheridan Street in Greenfield District.

The incident also happened at 8:32 a.m.

According to Eastern Police District director Brig. Gen. Wilson Asueta, the Land Cruiser hit two motorcycles first and then tried to reverse.

Instead of stopping, however, it sped through the southbound lane of San Miguel Avenue.

The SUV’s maneuver led it to crash against several motorcycles, cars and even a street light along the center island.

The occupants of this vehicle were identified as Roldan Jose Mari Elizagaque and Varga Dominador.

They were first brought to the Mandaluyong Medical Center to be examined for injuries. They then underwent an alcohol test at the Land Transportation Office headquarters before being brought to the Mandaluyong police station.

Reports also said the victims were rushed to Rizal Medical Center and Mandaluyong Medical Center.

The investigation is still ongoing as of writing.

Questions on the tragedy

Local social media who watched the video speculated that the incident might be a failed hit-and-run.

“Probably tried to hit and run, but their steering rack locked up after the first crash. That prevented them from driving straight and made them drive at high speed into the side of the traffic queue. Horrific,” transport advocate Robert Siy tweeted.

“Gusto pa sigurong tumakas nung sa unang bangga niya pero out of control na yung manibela kaya bumangga ulit sa iba haist,” another user said.

Other online users, meanwhile, expressed concern about the motorcycle rider who got up to save his life but ended up getting plowed along with the other vehicles.

The video also reached the online forum r/Philippines.

Some Redditors there recalled the case of Jose Antonio Sanvicente whose vehicle rammed over a security guard named Christian Joseph Floralde.

“So papa-press con ulit ‘yung driver ng SUV or sisihin nanaman ‘yung car ng unintended acceleration,” a Reddit user said.

“Pag ito mayaman, wala na. Mag-sosorry tapos kalimutan na ulit,” another Reddit user said.

Local cops have yet to identify who among the two occupants of the vehicle were driving the car at the time of the collisions.

The SUV camp, however, will reportedly extend assistance to the victims, including those who are still in the hospital.
