A Filipino Catholic warned social media users of a “Satanic Rosary” after realizing a family member had one for years.

Threads user Lucas (@whoslucaaas) shared on July 3 that it was his “first time” encountering such a rosary after realizing his grandmother had one as her “daily rosary.”

He was told that it came from Manaoag Church in Pangasinan.

“Please be extra careful and double-check din ‘yung mga rosary niyo sa bahay. Kaya pala parang ilang years na mabigat ang nangyayari sa family namin at laging nasa hospital, kasi ilang years na pala niya itong ginagamit bago namin napansin,” Lucas said.

He added that he was “extremely creeped out” after learning they had a “satanic rosary” in their possession.

“Dati napapanood ko lang siya sa KMJS,” the Threads user said, referring to the news magazine show “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho.”

He also included photos of the rosary and encircled signs that it was satanic. It featured snakes wrapped in a cross above and below the image of Jesus Christ.

Another user, who claimed to be a server at the church he mentioned, said that they do not sell such rosaries.

“Hindi po sila nagbebenta ng ganiyang rosary sa loob ng simbahan. Kung sa labas man po ‘yan nabili, please look carefully sa details po ng binibili ninyo, dahil marami pong ganyan,” the Threads user commented.

“Aside po sa rosary na may ahas, ‘wag rin po kayong bibili ng mga Santo Niño or kahit anong images na meron pong pampaswerte. Hindi po ‘yun bini-bless ng simbahan. Together with the so-called ‘evil eye’ accessories. To properly dispose that po, surrender it to the church,” the user added.

Another user who read Lucas’ post also shared their own experience.

“We had one, apparently it was also given to my mom years back… nakasabit siya sa altar namin and every day, before leaving the house, we were used to na hawakan siya and mag-pray,” the user wrote.

“It was last year, when I found out na kakaiba ‘yung rosary. We surrendered it sa church and they accepted it naman. Medyo mabigat nga talaga siya sa family namin when we still have it,” the user added.

In 2017, an exorcist priest raised awareness about “satanic rosaries,” warning Catholics about such religious items.

Fr. Ambrosio Nonato Legaspi said that such rosaries are given away by Satanists, who he said are a group called the Illuminati.

“These were made not only to be simply given away but to deceive Catholics… so that evil spirits will haunt them,” he said before.

According to Diocese of Novaliches Office of Exorcism assistant case officer Philippe De Guzman, satanic rosaries have odd symbols on them that are not readily noticeable to the untrained eye.

Often made of plastic, the symbols could be a snake wrapped around the cross, a pentagram, and/or a sun with rays, an insignia of the Illuminati.

“KMJS” also made an episode about it before, highlighting characteristics of such an item.

A Holy Rosary is a string of beads used to count prayers in the Catholic faith.

It is divided into five sections called “decades,” with each decade consisting of ten smaller beads (for the Hail Mary prayers) and separated by a larger bead (for the Lord’s Prayer).
