Abu Sayyaf behead ex-village chief in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A former village chieftain of Sumisip, Basilan was beheaded by alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf, the provincial police chief said.

Senior Superintendent Nickson Muksan said Hadji Najer Bohong, 58, former chairman of Barangay Mahatalang, had gone to Sitio Upper Bato Lareg on Saturday to pick up timber to be used in his house.

However, Bohon’g relatives found his body around 10 a.m. Sunday.

Muksan said their investigation indicated that followers of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Furuji Indama had seized Bohong.

Bohong’s relatives buried him Saturday afternoon but his head remains missing.
