A film production company offered some movies starring Cherie Gil for free streaming as a tribute to the late actress.
Regal Entertainment Inc. released a playlist called “The Life and Work of Cherie Gil” on its YouTube channel following her passing on August 5.
Cherie, whose real name is Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann, succumbed to cancer at 59 years old.
Regal Entertainment joined in the local entertainment industry’s collective mourning for Cherie’s death.
“Rest in peace, Cherie Gil. Your Regal Family will always be thankful for your contribution to the movie industry. We are praying for your soul,” the company said.

Regal Entertainment also released some of Cherie’s acclaimed films for free viewing on YouTube. It compiled the films in a playlist to honor the late award-winning actress.

Cherie’s family disclosed the cause of her death in an official statement. Cherie’s son Raphael shared this statement on social media last August 7.
“Cherie was diagnosed with a rare form of endometrial cancer in October of last year after deciding to relocate to New York City to be closer to her children. She then underwent treatment at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York,” the statement reads.
The family also thanked all the people who expressed their sympathy and love for Cherie and for them.
“While we are deeply saddened by our loss and still mourning her passing, we are incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and support for her and our family; evidence of just how many lives Cherie touched,” their statement said.
Celebrities and Cherie’s fans expressed their grief over her untimely death last Friday.
Former vice president Leni Robredo also remembered the actress’s support for her during the last elections in a tribute post for her.
“Remembering Cherie Gil with love and admiration for her invaluable contributions to Philippine cinema and the entire country. We also remember her with gratitude for the support during the last elections,” Robredo said.
Cherie was notable for her “kontrabida” image or antagonist roles in local primetime series and movies, thus earning her the moniker “La Primera Contravida.”
Her character as Lavinia Arguelles in the 1985 iconic film “Bituing Walang Ningning” by Emmanuel Borlaza cemented her villain reputation in Philippine cinema.
