A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was involved in an overtaking maneuver in Nueva Ecija when it collided with another vehicle but continued driving away.

Automotive publication VISOR on Monday, November 17, posted a video sent by Fritz Tyrone, who claimed that the incident occurred on a road in the town of Carranglan in Nueva Ecija.

The video shows a vehicle following a van at nighttime. At around the 0:27-second mark, another vehicle, the MPV, can be seen attempting to overtake the vehicle behind the van.

A sound can also be heard as the MPV continues its overtaking maneuver, while an individual inside the vehicle shouts an expletive.

The driver of the overtaken vehicle then honks the horn repeatedly to alert the MPV of the maneuver.

By the 1:17-minute mark of the video, the MPV overtakes the van that was originally ahead of the vehicle it had briefly collided with.

An individual inside the vehicle can be heard saying they will go to a police station to file a blotter.

Toward the end of the video, the vehicle that was hit can be seen seemingly chasing the MPV.

The MPV’s overtaking maneuver drew criticism from some Filipinos in the comments section.

“Nag-overtake ng alanganin, nakasagi, private vehicle na gumamit ng red [and] blue emergency light, at tinakbuhan ang responsibilidad niya… take that Video to LTO, file a complain and sue the moron. Patong-patong na kaso at violation ang haharapin ng estupidong driver na ‘yan,” a Pinoy wrote.

The LTO, or Land Transportation Office, is the agency responsible for issuing driver’s licenses to qualified individuals who operate motor vehicles.

“Anlakas ng loob ah, nagmamadali ‘yan sumakabilang buhay,” another Pinoy commented.

Meanwhile, another motorist warned of “reckless drivers” in Dalton Pass, a winding mountain pass connecting the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya.

The post did not specify whether the video was recorded on that particular road.

“Madaming kamoteng 4-wheels diyan sa Dalton Pass, umo-overtake ng alanganin. Chill lang sa pagda-drive diyan. Pagdating mo sa tuktok o sa baba, naabutan mo rin naman mga nago-overtake,” a Facebook user wrote.

Last August, a van was called out for overtaking on a blind curve in the town of Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya.

Overtaking occurs when one vehicle passes another moving vehicle on the road, typically because the latter is traveling at a slower speed.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority advises that drivers ensure there is ample space ahead and no hazards are present before attempting an overtaking maneuver.
