For Liza Soberano, “Forgotten Island” is especially sentimental because she could relate to the courage her character, Raissa, had to find as she faced a major change in her life.
Liza recalled that she auditioned for the DreamWorks Animation film while she was in the middle of moving from Manila to Los Angeles, a transition that required her to step outside her comfort zone.
“The reason why this film was so sentimental to me is because when I had auditioned for the role originally I was just in the middle of moving from Manila to LA. So that took a lot of courage and bravery for me to step outside of my comfort zone,” Liza said.
She said she could relate to that sense of courage as Raissa and her best friend Jo face changes in their own lives.
Liza voices Raissa in “Forgotten Island,” which follows the lifelong best friends as they are transported to the fantastical island of Nakali, where they encounter magical and mythological creatures they grew up hearing about from their Filipino families.

The film, distributed by Universal Pictures, is written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the filmmaking team behind “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”
Liza joined H.E.R., Joel and Januel in Manila for the “Tayo Na!” tour ahead of the film’s Philippine release. During the tour, she described “Forgotten Island” as a love letter to the Philippines and its people.

“Forgotten Island” opens in Philippine cinemas on September 23.
