Pinay group clinches runner-up spot in K-Pop global dance contest

The all-girl dance group that represented the Philippines in the prestigious K-Pop Cover Dance Festival placed second overall at the conclusion of the competition’s finale in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend.

Competing against nine other finalists from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Japan, United States, Vietnam, and South Korea, the group Y.O.U. had earlier advanced to the Top Four which also consisted of teams from the U.S., Russia and South Korea.

A late surge of fan votes on Twitter catapulted the group to the Top 5 and placed them in contention for the competition’s Twitter Popular Choice Award category, an honor that was eventually won by Russia’s X.east.

The two-day finale of K-Pop Cover Dance, which started June 3 and concluded the following day, generated over 600,000 video views on Twitter and Periscope. Given K-Pop’s strong global following, it came as no surprise that the competition’s semifinals was also watched live on Twitter and Periscope by more than 219,000 fans worldwide.

The semifinal live broadcast likewise received more than 257,000 Hearts and also saw K-Pop band K.A.R.D. performing alongside the competition’s semi-finalists. The competition’s finals live broadcast generated an even bigger following with over 259,600 views and more than 327,000 Hearts on Periscope and Twitter.
