For Social Media Day 2017, a virtual passing of the baton and changing of the guard will take place, turning to the digital natives of today — young, tech savvy, empowered — as they lead the charge in charting the course of social media, the internet, and society at large.

With the theme #NextPH, Social Media Day 2017, now on its 6th year, will be held at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura, Taguig City, on July 1, 2017 at 12nn. The event is spearheaded by @TweetupMNL, a volunteer community of active netizens who are united by their passion for social media.

A series of panel discussions and break-out sessions have been lined-up with an impressive array of speakers.

DSWD Sec. Judy Taguiwalo, who will deliver the keynote address, will be expounding on compassion and social good, while Dr. Gia Sison will talk on the subject of mental health issues.

Also among the confirmed speakers are: Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) Commissioner Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph, film directors Arvin Kadiboy Belarmino and Noel Escondo, design thinking specialist Phil Smithson, education advocate Nash Tysmans, and more.

Cognizant of the diversity and influence that the digital natives of today hold, Social Media Day 2017 aims to harness this collective energy in leading the way forward; aware of the challenges — and of the many positive opportunities — that lay ahead.

Through the technology available at their fingertips, these digital natives are making their presence felt and their voices heard.

“The spirit of community that fires digital natives today is very much alive and well,” Ros Juan, cofounder of @TweetupMNL said. “We want to tap into this collective force that is driven by innovation and technology and use it for forging a better future.”

“It is exciting to note that online communities have been growing bigger than ever each year,” Tonyo Cruz, also a cofounder of @TweetupMNL added. “They have their own respective advocacies that, despite of or because of their youth, they push with unbridled passion.”

Social Media Day 2017 is brought to you by Lazada, Reddimart Multi-resources Inc., SM Supermalls, World of Fun, and Voyager. With support from AstigPH, Adobo Magazine, CNN Philippines, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Primer Magazine, Scout, WhenInManila, and InterAksyon.
