James Yap finally beat his former team.

After going winless in his first four matchups against the Star Hotshots, the two-time MVP finally got over the hump after his streaking Rain or Shine Elasto Painters came up with a 92-88 win in their Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup showdown last Sunday.

Yap didn’t do much in the win as he was held scoreless in less than 10 minutes of action. But that didn’t put a damper on his feelings about his first victory over the Hotshots since being traded last year in exchange for Paul Lee.

“Masaya. Thank you sa mga teammates ko, nakakuha kami ng isa,” Yap said. “0-4 kami sa kanila so tatlo pa (bago makabawi).”

Yap said he doesn’t mind having limited production as long as Rain or Shine wins. He added that the game against the Hotshots was a test for the Elasto Painters who were able to stay afloat despite leading by 20 points.

“Maganda rin yung nakahabol sila. For me, mas gusto ko yung ganung mahabol kami para ma-practice kami,” Yap said.
