“The Captain Hook” is back.

Mac Cardona will soon be seeing action in the PBA again after the GlobalPort Batang Pier on Saturday officially signed him as part of their roster in the Oppo Governors’ Cup.

Cardona, 36, last saw action for the NLEX Road Warriors last year. He took time off basketball after being hospitalized due to drug overdose.

He played competitive basketball again last July, suiting up for Zark’s Burgers in the PBA D-League.

Cardona then tried out for a spot in GlobalPort last August after coach Franz Pumaren, his mentor during his collegiate days in La Salle, gave him a chance for a PBA return.

During his prime, Cardona was hailed as one of the league’s best scorers. Known for knocking down floaters, he has career averages of 14.6 points, four rebounds and 2.2 assists.

He was named Best Player of the Conference in the 2007 Fiesta Conference and bagged Finals MVP honors during his championship run with Talk ‘N Text in the 2009 Philippine Cup.
