MANILA, Philippines — Acting presidential spokesperson Harry Roque is hoping that the supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte and Assistant Secretary for Social Media Margaux “Mocha” Uson will understand the importance of a free press.

On Monday, Roque said the media had played a big role in coming out with exposés about the previous administration and also became instrumental in the poll victory of Duterte last year and thus he was also hoping that Uson would listen to him, especially when they respect each other.

He added that he wanted Uson to be his student.

“I will forever consider individuals as under my tutelage on important matters. So I hope Asec Mocha will accept being a student of the spokesperson,” said Roque.

His statement, however, was not welcomed by some staunch supporters of the President, including Thinking Pinoy publisher Rey Joseph “RJ” Nieto, who called Roque a “trapo” or traditional politician.

He said Roque who did not have the right to commend Durerte’s supporters as they have their own minds.

He also appealed to the President to no longer release Roque’s appointment papers.

MAY SARILING ISIP MGA YAN…Daddy D. wag mo na ilabas yung papel niyan,” he said.
