MANILA, Philippines — Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Friday again thumbed down the idea of running for senator following Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s recent statement that he would urge President Rodrigo Duterte’s special assistant to be among the administration party’s candidates in next year’s mid-term polls.

“I am really not interested in running for a Senate seat,” Go said, reiterating the statement he made earlier this month.

Last Thursday, in his speech during the oath-taking of new PDP-Laban members in Negros Oriental, Alvarez, the party’s secretary-general, said, “I’d like to convince someone to run for senator. I’d like to convince Christopher Lawrence Go—do you know him? No?.”

Earlier this month, Duterte said during his speech at 116th anniversary of the Bureau of Customs that the Senate inquiry into PHP15.5 billion frigate acquisition could be Go’s ticket to a Senate seat.

But Go said the President just “mentioned it in jest in view of my demand to the Senate to conduct a full blown public hearing and get to the bottom of the frigate controversy.”

Go said he had already dedicated his life in serving the chief executive, who has been his boss since Duterte was mayor of Davao City.

“I am committed to stand beside him ‘til kingdom come,” he said.
