After months of thorough and careful evaluation and deliberations, including dialogues with different industry stakeholders, the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival Executive Committee has started the call for applicants for the much-anticipated annual film festival.

Based on the stated objectives of the 2017 MMFF to pursue both artististic excellence and audience appeal that can equate to more benefits to its target industry beneficiaries, it has been resolved that there will be two ways of entering this year’s MMFF for full-length feature.

A producer can either submit a screenplay in June or a movie in the can in October. Four submitted scripts will be chosen as official entries, and another four among the submitted finished films will round out the traditional “Magic 8.”

Producers who will take the script route need to submit 12 copies of their screenplay, a duly accomplished application form and complete requirements plus an application fee of P30,000 to the MMFF Secretariat on or before 5PM of June 15.

The four chosen scripts will be announced on June 30.

Producers can submit their finished films, a duly accomplished application form and complete requirements to the MMFF Secretariat until October 2 for early birds (with a P30,000 application fee) or until October 30 (with an application fee of P50,000.)

The four selected finished films will be announced on November 17.

The MMFF encourages interested filmmakers and producers to submit letters of intent on or before 5PM of May 10.

The deadline for the Short Film category, on the other hand, will be on September 1. The eight official short film entries will be announced on September 29.

“We would like to underscore the 2017 MMFF ExeCom vision of encouraging the submission of excellent films that would connect to a broader Filipino audience for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival,” the MMFF statement said.
