Social media users recently juxtaposed the evening gowns that Miss Universe Philippines titleholders supposedly wore when they won the crown with the Philippine flag, noting that the four queens wore gowns that match the four colors of the flag—yellow, white, blue and red.

The collated pictures show Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wearing their evening gowns supposedly during their crowning moment.

However, they failed to recall that Diaz wore a white gown on the coronation night—not yellow as the viral pictures had suggested.

Meanwhile, Moran wore white, Wurtzbach wore blue and Gray wore a red number.

The gown of Gloria Diaz

On July 19, 1969, Gloria Diaz made history when she won the crown of Miss Universe, considered the most prestigious beauty pageant in history.

She earned praises for her answer about entertaining a man who had just come back from the moon.

She was asked, “In a next day or so, a man will land on the moon. If a man from the moon landed in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?”

“Oh, just the same things I do. I think if he has been in the moon for so long I think when he comes over he wants to change, I guess,” Diaz answered.

During that time, the petite 18-year-old won the favor of the judges and bested 60 other contestants with her unique answer.

When Diaz wore the crown and did her first walk on stage as Miss Universe, she had a white sleeveless evening gown.

She wore a yellow gown for an official souvenir program photoshoot.

While it was not the same gown that was initially shared by social media users, it is definite from footage that Diaz wore a white gown during her crowning moment and not yellow, as what the viral pictures suggest. — Featured photo by Uela Altar-Badayos
