BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A painter and performance artist based in Bacolod City was stabbed dead Wednesday morning, January 31, by the burglar she caught robbing her home.

The suspect, Sandy Sevilla, 27, a suspended security guard, admitted killing Nunistell Mae Fulo, 41, inside her house in Barangay Granada when she walked in on him around 6:30 a.m.

Fulo, a former member of the Bayanihan, the National Dance Company, died of multiple stab wounds.

Fulo’s househelp was stabbed in the stomach and left thigh but survived and is being treated at a local hospital.

Sevilla, who was arrested at the home he shared with his live-in partner, said he needed money for his sick child.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, chief of Police Station 5 in Granada, said Sevilla had broken into Fulo’s house around 1 a.m., more than five hours before he killed the artist.
