Former PBA player Bong Alvarez was arrested on Saturday evening for using shabu.

Authorities were about to serve a warrant of arrest on Alvarez for slight physical injuries arising from a bar brawl last year when they caught him sniffing shabu along with two people in a hidden den inside a barber shop at Brgy. Sikatuna Village in Quezon City.

Confiscated from Alvarez and his two cohorts were five sachets of shabu, totalling approximately 2.13 grams with estimated street value of Php 15,000; five aluminum foil strips with traces of shabu, and other drug paraphernalia.

The 48-year-old Alvarez was jailed last year after the bar brawl. He was later released on bail but refused to attend court hearings.

Alvarez played for 13 years in the PBA and earned the nickname “Mr. Excitement” due to his gravity-defying highlight reels.

But Alvarez was involved in many controversies that tainted his legacy–from charges of woman abuse and adultery to past incidents of drug abuse.
