Miss World Philippines organization announced the debut of 2023 editions of Miss Supranational Philippines, Miss Grand Philippines and MWP (Facebook/ALV Pageant Circle)

Three international pageants are set to launch their next editions in the Philippines in 2023.

These pageant titles are as follows:

  • Miss Supranational Philippines in March 2023
  • Miss Grand Philippines in June 2023
  • Miss World Philippines in October 2023

All three national pageants are now under the Miss World Philippines (MWP) organization.

Winners in these competitions, therefore, will be sent to represent the Philippines on the global pageant stage.

This news was posted on the Facebook page of ALV Pageant Circle, the local franchise holder of the Miss Grand International (MGI) pageant, on December 5.

“Mark your calendars and save the dates! Three of the most prestigious titles in global pageantry, all set to unfold in 2023,” the post reads.

“Thrice the glam. Triple the excitement. All aiming to elevate, inspire and empower a new generation of aspiring Filipina queens,” it added.

The Facebook page of MWP also shared this news on Facebook.

Of the three titles, the newest member of the MWP family is Miss Grand Philippines after talent manager Arnold Vegafria acquired MGI’s franchise last November.

Vegafria is also the national director of MWP.

Miss Supranational Philippines, meanwhile, has been under MWP’s management since July 2020.

Next year’s edition, however, will be held as a separate event instead of being among the minor crowns of the MWP competition.

The remaining minor crowns are the following:

  • Miss Eco International Philippines
  • Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas
  • Miss World Philippines Tourism
  • Miss World Philippines Charity

These changes in local pageantry scene received mixed reactions from fans online.

One user was glad that Miss Supranational Philippines will be launched as a separate occasion.

“Buti naman seperate pageant na rin Miss Supra PH. Magkakameron na ng time to prepare ang magiging representative natin,” the user said.

The current holder of Miss Supranational Philippines is Alison Black from Las Piñas City.

Another user suggested making the MWP a standalone pageant as well.

“Miss World Philippines deserves a stand-alone pageant. Wag ng haluan ng ibang titles nawawala ang main purpose ng pageant. Pamigay nyo na ibang minor pageants sa ibang organization at mag focus na lang kayo sa Miss World,” the user said.

Other Filipinos, however, were wary and critical of the addition of Miss Grand Philippines.

They recalled the issue of Binibining Pilipinas (BBP)’ cutting ties with the MGI.

“Kung ung BB Pilipinas sinukuan si MGI eto kaya si MW kelan kaya madadala,” a Facebook user said.

“Bumitaw na talaga Binibining Pilipinas sa MGI kase bumukod lang pala,” another online user commented.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI), the owner of BBP, formally announced its withdrawal from the MGI last November after years of handling the franchise.

This decision also came after a string of controversies that involved the coronation night of the Thailand-based competition last October and its president Nawat Itsaragrisil or P’Nawat.

“Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) officially withdraws from Miss Grand International and will no longer renew its franchise,” said BPCI head and spokesperson Gines Enriquez.

“We thank the organizers of Miss Grand International and wish them the best in their future endeavors,” he added.
