Olympics acknowledges Carlos Yulo’s victory in Baku World Cup

The Olympics recognized Filipino athlete Carlos Yulo’s recent victory in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.  

On Sunday, March 12, the 23-year-old dominated the vault after scoring 14.933. 

He bested Great Britain‘s Harry Hepworth and Hong Kong’s Wai Hung who settled in second and third spot, respectively. 

Following his win, the Olympics posted a video of Carlos’ performance during the 2020 Tokyo games.

“Filipino star Carlos Yulo claimed his second title of the weekend at the @gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Baku with Giorgia Villa and Marine Boyer also among the winners on the final day,” Olympics wrote in a post.

Carlos on Saturday, March 11 first secured gold at the parallel bars with a score of 15.40.

Before the parallel bars and vault competition, the Olympics also shared a video of Carlos’ performance during the Tokyo games.

“Paris in his sights [eyes emoji],” the Olympics wrote.

“Fan favourite gymnast Carlos Yulo 🇵🇭 has sacrificed much in his quest for Olympic gold, including leaving his home in the Philippines to train with Japan’s best,” it added.

“Yulo is obviously a favorite ng Olympics and FIG,” a Twitter user said in jest

Following Carlos’ victory, messages of congratulations poured in for him. Some Filipinos have also expressed their high hopes for the gymnast’s 2024 Paris Olympics bid. 

“Tumbling sa ere, tapos good landing. Parang weekend ko ang bilis, Lunes na agad. Anyways, congrats golden boy of [Philippine flag emoji] @philgymnastics na si @c_edrielzxs for another [gold medal emoji] medal output,” a social media user wrote

“Textbook, just textbook. Yulo is a national treasure,” a Twitter user said

“Saludo, Caloy! Right momentum for the next Olympics 🙏🏻🥇#CarlosYulo,” an online user wrote

“No doubt that this man will bring home a gold medal for us next year in Paris,” a Twitter user commented

“Congrats #CaloyYulo Thank you for raising our flag!” an online user said

“OMG!!! smells like gold for Kaloy in the next Olympic,” a social media user said

Carlos is expected to compete again in the final leg of the World Cup series in Cairo, Egypt by late April.
