Peso, PSEi slightly up Thursday

MANILA – The Philippine peso ended Thursday on sideways closing at 49.91 to a United States dollar, gaining 0.04 from previous day’s closing of 49.95.

The local currency opened the day at 49.95 after touching the 50-level on Wednesday at 50.01 as opening rate.

The currency pair traded to a low of 49.89 and high of 49.97, bringing the average level at 49.93 to a dollar.

Total volume of trade on Thursday amounted to USD456 million.

Likewise, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) slightly gained by 0.28 percent or 22.23 points ending this day’s trading at 7,816.40 points.

All Shares grew by 12.93 points to 4,656.88 points.

Four sectors finished in the green on Wednesday’s trading, led by Property, which went up by 0.71 percent to 3,558.46.

This was followed by Holding Firms, growing by 0.70 percent to 7,917.89 points; Mining and Oil, increasing by 0.35 percent to 12,680.54 points; and Financials, expanding by 0.21 percent to 1,910.31 points.

Services and Industrials indices declined by 0.74 percent and 0.29 percent, respectively, at 1,625.15 points and 11,201.14 points.

Volume of trade reached 3.92 billion shares worth hp 15.59 billion.

Gainers outnumbered losers at 108 to 94, with 45 shares unchanged.
